CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Workers excavating an old S.C. cemetery have uncovered hundreds of sets of human remains.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reports Thursday that the Charleston Housing Authority found and removed about 350 sets of remains from the former Hampstedt Cemetery.

Historian Charles F. Philips Jr. says the mass graves were likely used for victims of yellow fever. The remains are being moved to Bethany Cemetery, where they will be reburied.
