CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - From ranking in the top 10 for ghost tours to being named the top city in the United States, Charleston has garnered quite a bit of acclaim over the past few weeks.
On Tuesday, it places on a less-flattering list. The Daily Beast, a news and opinion site backed by Newsweek, has ranked Charleston #22 on its list of "America's Brokest Cities."
The Daily Beast says that Charleston earned its place on the list by having an unemployment rate of 9.6%, a median household income of $48,062, an average personal debt of $26,391, and an average credit score of 731.
Also placing on the list are nearby Savannah, Georgia and Wilmington, North Carolina. You can find all 30 of "America's Brokest Cities" by clicking this link.
