CHARLESTON, S.C., Nov. 8, 2011 -- /PRNewswire/ -- Adding to the plethora of activities and tours available in Charleston, S.C., is the recently opened Segway of Charleston in Mount Pleasant. A Segway PT (Personal Transporter) is a self-balancing, two-wheeled vehicle that is a fun, easy, eco-friendly way to tour and travel Charleston.

Segway of Charleston offers four daily tours from its location on Coleman Boulevard. These tours highlight the rich history and inherent beauty of Charleston.

The Patriots Point Tour glides smooth sidewalks to views of the USS Yorktown, Ravenel Bridge and the beautiful Charleston Harbor. The tour includes scenic destinations and a two-mile nature path leading to a lookout dock offering scenes of Fort Sumter and Charleston's skyline.

The Old Village Tour, a one-hour excursion through seven stops, includes historic homes, churches and a Masonic lodge, as well as Revolutionary and Civil War landmarks. Riders will enjoy countless picturesque locations and vistas of Charleston Harbor.

The one-hour Pitt Street Bridge Tour presents tour-goers six charming stops and an abundance of unique sites. A brief history of the Old Village starts the tour before proceeding to Alhambra Hall, overlooking Charleston Harbor, and the breezes of Cove Inlet and Pitt Street Bridge.

The final tour combines the Old Village and Pitt Street Bridge Tours, and is two hours in length.

"These Segway tours are not just for tourists, but for locals also," said Tac Ralston, Segway of Charleston president. "While Charleston residents may be familiar with these locations, they've never seen them from vantage points like these. Riding on an electric vehicle is a quiet, fun, unique way to quickly cover a lot of ground and take in both the scenic and historic."

Tours are offered daily at 9:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. The cost is $45 for one hour and $65 for two hours. For more information, times and reservations visit www.SegwayofCharleston.com.

In addition to tours, which include training, half and full-day rentals are available. Training and delivery is arranged at the rental customer's convenience.
