KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. — A Charleston County man wants to study bobcats on Kiawah Island as a way to assess the coexistence of wildlife and development.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reported (http://bit.ly/ppe7oe) Jim Chitwood is pushing for the study the Kiawah Conservancy.
Chitwood says he's like to get GPS tracking device on more of the estimated three dozen bobcats on the island, to learn where they rest during the day and hunt at night. He says getting more information will help the Conservancy maintain the island's wildlife habitat.
He retired from Eastman Kodak and originally was looking to retire at Hilton Head Island, but didn't like the way the gardenlike barrier island had become a city.
