CHARLESTON, S.C. South Carolina's third largest city is considering allowing casino boats to sail from its docks, to try to boost local revenue.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reported North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey said Wednesday he hopes to get a report within two months on allowing gambling cruises.

Summey says the city should consider every opportunity to deal with lower revenue collections because of the recession.

Summey has asked city staff to get information from areas where gambling boats operate, including Little River north of Myrtle Beach and Brunswick, Ga.

Summey says allowing the boats wouldn't be much different from cruise ships, since the gambling would begin only after the boats leave state waters.
