CHARLESTON, S.C. -- While it may not be as exciting as an Indiana Jones movie, the public is getting a chance to see what it's like to be an archaeologist during a public dig at a South Carolina plantation.

The Second Annual Drayton Hall Archaeological Institute opens next month at the plantation house on the Ashley River just outside of Charleston.

Starting Oct. 27 and for 10 days over two weeks, explorers will attempt to better understand features such as a fortification trench associated with an earlier building at the Drayton Hall site.

Drayton Hall dates to 1738 and is one of a handful of homes built before the Revolutionary War that remains close to its original condition.
