CHARLESTON, S.C. -- A new building opening this weekend in South Carolina is a $27 million training ground for artists of tomorrow.

The public can see the new Cato Center at the College of Charleston on Saturday before the building starts being used for classes next week.

The five-story building provides much-needed space for the college's growing arts program.

The existing Simons Center for the Arts was built 31 years ago to serve about 800 arts students. Today the college has more than 6,000.

The new 70,000-square Cato Canter has space for disciplines from painting and dance to photography.

The upper floors offer great views of the Charleston skyline and visitors will also be able to see plans for renovating the existing Simons Center.
