CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The Medical University of South Carolina is getting $2 million from the family of a Charleston philanthropist for brain tumor research.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reported Thursday the money comes from the family of Jerry Zucker, who died last year of a brain tumor.

About half of the donation will be used to endow a chair at MUSC supporting a researcher working on brain tumors.

The money will also be used for spinal cord research and allow the university to bring care to the people of Tanzania in Africa. Tanzania has only three neurosurgeons - about one for every 13 million people.
