Welcome to Absolute Reel Screamer Charters Charleston Fishing-
Charleston's pristine estuaries offer the light tackle and fly fisherman year 'round opportunities to catch hard fighting game fish. I'm Capt. Gresh Meggett and I'd like to help ensure you a successful day of fishing on the water. Let's take a brief look at what each fishing season offers in the Charleston area.
Charleston Fishing-Spring (April-May)
Above average tides in these two months offers you an excellent opportunity to stalk big Red Drum on spartina marsh flats. We'll leave the boat and wade through these shallows to look for these beautiful fish waving their tails in the air as they search for crustaceans on the bottom. To me there is nothing more exciting than having a 15 lb Red tailing 20 feet from you in 2 feet of water!
Charleston Fishing-Summer (June- September)
We've got a little bit of everything during these hot months. Cruising Charleston harbor at first light is a great way to find large Jack Crevalle feeding on Menhaden on the slick surface. Right outside the harbor frenzied Spanish Mackeral whip the water into a froth as their larger cousins, King Mackeral, slash through baitfish as well. Black Drum, Sheepshead and flounder can also be caught quite readily during these warmer months. And don't forget about the big Reds, they're still here as well!
Charleston Fishing-Fall and Winter (Oct.-March)
This is my favorite time of year to fish in Charleston. Again, at the first part of Fall, above average tides let us wade for the big Red Drum on brilliant green flats. As the water cools these hard fighting fish start to gather and form schools, sometimes in the hundreds! The water also becomes clear so now we can see these huge schools feeding while only in a few feet of water. Whether your tossing a fly or using spinning tackle casting to these huge schools is nothing short of spectacular!
