CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Charleston Harbor becomes a sea of sails as the annual Harbor Fest celebration gets under way.

The maritime festival beginning Thursday features 18 tall ships from all over the world.

Those ships include South Carolina's own tall ship, The Spirit of South Carolina, as well as others including The Pride of Baltimore II and the Schooner Virginia.

The festival continues through Monday, and people are allowed to walk the decks of the tall ships. Another attraction is Old Charles Towne, an exhibit depicting over 300 years of history along the Carolina coast.

The festival also includes an exhibit of wooden watercraft including canoes, dinghies and launches. There's also a weekend boat building competition.
