A MESSAGE FROM OUR MAYOR

The cultural vitality of our community grows and thrives due to the combined presence of a wonderful blend of artistic endeavors, all of which support and sustain the whole.

We are indeed fortunate to have a company of this caliber in our City and in the southeastern region, and are committed to working with them to insure their continuing presence.

The Charleston Ballet Theatre is truly an integral part of Charleston's cultural life and we greatly value its professionalism, artistic integrity, and commitment to our community--sharing the art of dance with our school children, with dancers-in-training, and with local, regional and national audiences. We look forward to our continuing collaboration on this and similar endeavors.

- Joseph P. Riley
Mayor, City of Charleston

AN ECLECTIC RANGE OF DANCE STYLES

Celebrating its 20th year as a professional dance company, Charleston Ballet Theatre is directed by Don & Patricia Cantwell and Jill Eathorne Bahr. All have achieved national prominence through their dedication to artistic integrity and the provision of a distinctive repertory that includes the renowned choreography of George Balanchine, José Limon, and Ms. Bahr.

"Innovative...Eclectic...Unmatched"

Presenting works in an eclectic range, the CBT has consistently received regional and national accolades for its vitality and professionalism. The Post & Courier calls the CBT: “the primary jewel in Charleston’s artistic crown”. Reviews have continued to highlight the artistic prowess and talent that distinguish the company and Ms. Bahr, whose choreographic work has been described as both “power-packed” and “startlingly inventive” by arts columnist Dottie Ashley [Post & Courier]. The Charleston Ballet Theatre is an integral part of Charleston's cultural life—sharing the art of dance with the community’s school children, with dancers-in-training, and with local, regional and national audiences.

REPRESENTED NATIONALLY AND WITH LEGENDARY CHOREOGRAPHERS

CBT is represented nationally by Gary Lindsey Artist Services of San Francisco. We are an honorary lifetime member of Regional Dance America. CBT is the only SC Company licensed to perform the works of the legendary choreographers George Balanchine (Serenade, Allegro Brilliante, Concerto Barocco, Tarantella, Who Cares? Rubies) and Twyla Tharp (Baker's Dozen). This unique position allowed CBT to be awarded a Masterpieces of American Art grant from the South Carolina Arts Commission.

Other extraordinary choreographers include:

• Jose Limon (The Moors Pavane)

• Salvatore Aiello (Clowns and Others, Notturno)

• Mark Dendy (Ballet I, Afternoon of a Fawn)

• Eddy Toussaint (A Simple Moment, Souvenance)

• David Parsons (The Envelope)
